What clothes to wear on a helicopter flight?

A helicopter flight is a unique experience. With the right clothes, you are comfortable, get in easily and can fully enjoy the view. Most important? Choose clothes that are comfortable and practical. You don't have to come in sportswear, but go for an outfit in which you can sit relaxed with your seatbelt on. We will give you some tips in these blogs so that you are comfortable at altitude and your clothes do not cause problems when getting in and out.

✅ Comfort is number one

In the helicopter, you are securely fastened in a seat with belts. Therefore, wear clothes in which you can move easily and sit well:

  • Useful though: jeans, chinos, leggings with longer top, comfortable dress, jumper or blouse.
  • Less convenient: extremely tight clothing that may pinch at the belts or while sitting.

👟 Choose practical shoes

Entry is via a step and sometimes a platform. With sturdy, flat shoes, you step in safely and easily.

  • Do: trainers, flat shoes, sturdy booties.
  • Rather not: high heels, slippers or shoes with a smooth sole.

High heels and unstable shoes can be awkward when boarding and are less safe on a windy platform.

👗 Take care with skirts and loose clothing

A skirt or dress is fine, but choose a model that is comfortable and gives enough room to move. Very short or flouncy skirts are less useful when boarding, especially in windy conditions. You should also avoid loose scarves or flapping clothes; they can get in the way when boarding or during security checks.

🧥 Dress for the season

Inside the helicopter it is usually pleasant, but on the platform it can be chilly and windy, especially in the Netherlands. So match your outfit to the weather.

  • Winter/autumn: warm jacket, jumper, possibly gloves. Prefer to bring layers.
  • Spring: light jacket or windbreaker, as it can cool down quickly due to wind.
  • Summer: airy clothes, but bring a thin jacket for later in the day.

Layers are ideal: you can easily put them on or take them off.

🕶️ Consider sun and visibility

During sunny days, sunglasses are fine against bright light and reflections. On longer flights or hot weather, sunscreen is also smart, especially if you are waiting outside for a while beforehand.

📸 Avoid bright colours for your photos

Want to take beautiful photos and videos? Then prefer not to choose bright red, neon or extremely shiny fabrics. Bright colours are more likely to cause reflections in the window, making your images less crisp.

  • Best choice: neutral colours, dark shades or calm prints.

🎒 Accessories and loose items

Be mindful of wind on the platform. Loose items can blow away or be awkward.

  • Prefer to leave caps/hats at home or secure them properly.
  • Do not wear loose scarves or long dangling accessories.
  • Do you have long hair? A rubber band is handy.

We will give you your headset, so there is no need to bring anything with you. Small items can often be safely stored before boarding.

🧾 Quick checklist before departure

  • Comfortable clothes (casual-net is perfect).
  • Closed, sturdy shoes without heels.
  • Layers or jacket depending on the season.
  • Sunglasses in bright light.
  • No bright colours if you want to shoot a lot.
  • Avoid loose accessories or flapping clothes.
