Become a pilot for a day: helicopter trial lesson in the Netherlands

Do you dream of pilot a helicopter yourself? With a helicopter trial lesson At 123Helicopter Flights, you step in as a pilot-for-a-day. Learn the basics, take the controls and have an experience you will never forget: educational, exciting and secretly addictive.

🚁 What is a helicopter trial lesson?

During a helicopter trial lesson You will first get a short briefing on the ground (safety & operation) and then go take to the air yourself with an instructor. Depending on your package, you will fly for about 20-60 minutes and - if conditions allow - you may self-steering: hovering, turning and heading. No experience required. You bring the curiosity, we the helicopter. 😉

⏱️ How long does it take?

Count on approx. 1 to 1.5 hours in total (briefing + flight time). Choose your package:

  • 🔹 Tasting: 20-30 minutes of flying
  • 🔹 Comprehensive: 45-60 minutes of flying

Good to know: the briefing goes not off your flight time. If you book 30 minutes, then you will actually be in the heli for 30 minutes.

📍 Flying from multiple locations

At 123Helikoptervluchten you can take trial lessons at various places in the Netherlands. Think about Lelystad, Hilversum or Harskamp.
From Veluwe forests to the Gooi and Flevopolder: each area has its own panorama. (And yes, with a bit of luck you'll fly over your own house!)

🎓 What will you learn during the trial lesson?

  • Control basics: cyclic (stick), collective and pedals
  • Safety, communication and checklist habits
  • Hands-on experience: take-off, hover, turns and maintaining stability

In short: not a sightseeing flight where you just watch, but experience it yourself what it is like to fly a helicopter.

💶 What does a helicopter trial lesson cost?

Price depends on location, helicopter type and flight time. As an indication:

  • Hilversum (S300): from approx. €330
  • Lelystad (S300/Cabri G2): from approx. €420
  • Harskamp (R44 - 2 passengers possible): from approx. €810
  • Emmen (S300): from approx. €420

Flying longer = doing more yourself. Feel free to choose 45 or 60 minutes if you want to grab extra flying minutes.

🧑‍✈️ Who is it suitable for?

No licence or experience required. Normal health is sufficient. Count on a guideline weight limit of 120 kg per person (because of balance) and for self-steering you should be old enough to follow instructions (±10+). Younger kids can sometimes in the back along (depending on type of helicopter). Any questions? We are happy to think along with you.

👨‍👩‍👧 Watching or flying along

Cosy! Family or friends can on the ground watch along. Do you opt for a Robinson R44, then even 2 passengers take to the air. Taking photos and video is allowed (tip: put your phone on aeroplane mode).

📌 Frequently asked questions

Do I need a licence or experience for a helicopter taster lesson?

No, you don't need any experience or certification. The trial lesson is specially designed for beginners. You will first get a clear explanation on the ground and then fly with a certified instructor, who can always intervene where necessary.

Can I bring someone with me during the trial lesson?

Yes! Certain helicopters, such as the Robinson R44, allow a maximum of two passengers to fly along in the back. In smaller helicopters (such as the S300 or Cabri G2), there is no room for this, but friends and family can always watch from the ground.

What happens if the weather is bad on the day of my trial lesson?

Safety always comes first. If the weather is too bad to fly safely (e.g. high winds or rain), the trial lesson will be moved to a new date free of charge. So you always take to the skies in good weather.
